Please include in your prayers:

- the crisis in Syria - for wisdom and compassion.
- the millions of displaced people in the Ukraine.
- the refugees and the European response to their needs
A special prayer for the UK at this time

Eternal God, Light of the nations,
in Christ you make all things new:
guide our nation in the coming days through the inspiration of your Spirit,
that understanding may put an end to discord and all bitterness.
Give us grace to rebuild bonds of trust
that together we may work for the dignity and flourishing of all;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Monday: Psalm 44; Matthew 14.1-12
Questions for reflection based on Matthew:
  • Horrible! What are the motives that drive the different people to involved this atrocity?
  • Can you think of people in the news or to you personally driven in the same way? Pray for them today.
  • What verse speaks to you today? Repeat it slowly and allow the Holy Spirit to speak through it.

    The psalm shows us that sometimes God seems to be missing when things go wrong. There appears no reason why God 'left' them; and yet the writer still trusts God. How did John the Baptist feel, when thrown into prison? How did his & Jesus' disciples feel about his execution? How do we feel, when life goes against us? The trouble is relying on feelings and not relying on our faith.

    1. Hear, hear! Trusting that God is good, all the time - there will always be a reason. Sacrifice and suffering are never in vain - that God experiences the is on the cross is the ultimate demonstration of its necessity and his presence in ours.
